SPOTLIGHT:
Raquel Romano
Earthquakes, hurricanes, and disease outbreaks are just as scary as they are unpredictable.
Fortunately, Dr. Raquel Romano has worked on Google’s Crisis Response Team as an engineer to locate resources, volunteers, and funding for nonprofits, and help communities recover quickly from devastation.
With a team of engineers, she developed the first Google Crisis Map to give people affected by a crisis a visual safety tool. Dr. Romano has also worked with the U.S. Digital Service as an Engineering Lead for vets.gov, and currently serves as the Principal Software Engineer for a machine-learning start-up, Threadloom.
Watch the video below to hear more about Dr. Romano's experience with handling large data sets, creating creative mathematical models, and exploring the opportunities as an engineer for the Google Crisis Response Team!
